The 2025 NFL Draft brought significant developments for the Chicago Bears and quarterback Shedeur Sanders while former NFL player Shannon Sharpe is embroiled in a scandal. Here’s a breakdown of the key stories:
🐻 Chicago Bears: Draft Recap and Analysis
The Bears made eight selections in the 2025 NFL Draft:
Analysts have generally given the Bears’ draft a B to B+ grade. The selections of Loveland and Burden aim to bolster the offensive weapons around quarterback Caleb Williams. While some view these picks as reaches, the overall strategy appears focused on providing Williams with a robust supporting cast. I personally didn’t love the first two picks but I didn’t hate them either. What this draft told fans was this – head coach Ben Johnson is in full control of the team.
With the additions of Loveland and Burden, alongside existing talents like DJ Moore and Rome Odunze, Williams has a formidable array of targets. The interior of the offensive line has also been strengthened through free agency, leaving Williams with minimal excuses for underperformance in the upcoming season. If this season becomes a repeat of what happened last year, the organization will have to take a serious look at Ryan Poles and his ability to make sound team building decisions.
🏈 Shedeur Sanders: A Surprising Draft Slide

Once projected as a first-round pick, quarterback Shedeur Sanders experienced a notable drop, eventually being selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round (No. 144 overall).
Sanders joins a crowded quarterback room in Cleveland, including Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel. His selection has garnered significant attention, and he celebrated with family, signaling his confidence despite the draft outcome.
Reports suggest that underwhelming team interviews and concerns about his demeanor contributed to his slide. Despite the fall, the Browns traded up to secure Sanders, indicating they see potential value in the pick. He will have an opportunity to become the Browns’ starter this year. Watson is out with an Achilles injury, Joe Flacco is 40 years old, Kenny Pickett may still have PTSD from his stint in Pittsburgh and Dillon Gabriel, like Shedeur, is a rookie.
The problem I have with Shedeur sliding to the 5th round is the optics. One anonomyous NFL coach commented Shedeur “needs to be humbled.” Why is it when it comes to black athletes that they always have to conform and be super humble? The effort to embarrass, belittle and cost this young man millions of dollars is beyond pathetic. Let’s call this what it really is – these owners and GMs wanted to humiliate and subjugate a young, confident black athlete. This was never a question of talent. Even if these GMs thought he wasn’t a first rounder letting him fall to pick 144 was a clear signal. They wanted to break him. I will root for Shedeur to prove everyone wrong and hope the bag he secures after his rookie contract will break whatever team he’s on.
⚖️ Shannon Sharpe’s Self Inflicted Wounds
NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe is currently entangled in legal troubles, facing multiple allegations of sexual assault. Two women have come forward: Michele Evans filed a lawsuit in New York in 2023, and another woman, identified as Jane Doe, filed a separate lawsuit in Nevada last week.
In response to the allegations, reports have surfaced that Sharpe offered a $10 million settlement to one of the accusers, Jane Doe, raising questions about his conduct and the veracity of the claims. Sharpe’s legal team denies the allegations, asserting that the relationships were consensual and accusing the plaintiffs of extortion.
Because of the backlash and scrutiny surrounding the lawsuit brought forth by Jane Doe, Sharpe voluntarily removed himself from ESPN’s First Take:

Sharpe’s ESPN colleague, Stephen A. Smith took to his show to address the situation:
I will just say this – Shannon Sharpe has no one to blame for his legal issues but himself. To be a 56 year old man involved with a 19/20 year old OF model is just poor decision making. I’m not here to be a moralist – if he wants to casually date and be a lifetime bachelor then that’s on him. He can’t be this arrogant, ignorant and entitled to believe that these situations wouldn’t come to light. Again – he’s a FIFTY-SIX YEAR OLD MAN still running around with young women. There is no defense for this and those who are on social media with the “whataboutisms” really need to examine themselves.
I would like to think this latest example with Shannon Sharpe would get these people in positions of power to think about the consequences of their actions… but hey we have a convicted felon in the White House right now so do with that what you will.
