Money In The Bank Recap

WWE Money in the Bank 2025 delivered some high-impact moments and an unexpected twist that left the WWE Universe buzzing. The show’s centerpiece was, of course, the ladder matches for the coveted briefcases. In the men’s contest, chaos reigned as superstars battled high above the ring—culminating in a victory for Seth Rollins. With a combination of strategic interference and calculated betrayal by his newly aligned enforcers, Rollins secured his briefcase and set the stage for a future title opportunity. The surprise of the match was Jacob Fatu turning on Solo Sikoa and costing Solo the win.

On the women’s side, the ladder match transformed into a display of both grit and grace. Amid a flurry of sweet spots by the women, Naomi took advantage by using the ladder to throw Rhea Ripley and Alexa off the ladder before sprinting to retrieve the briefcase. In doing so, Naomi became the 1st black woman to win the women’s Money in the Bank briefcase.

The night’s biggest moment came at the end of the main event between WWE Champion John Cena & Logan taking on World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso and Cody Rhodes. Just as it seemed like Cena & Paul would win, a masked man speared John Cena and revealed himself to be none other than R-Truth. His interference cost John Cena dearly in a tag team bout and giving Truth a measure of justice.

The fallout from Money in the Bank spilled over into Monday Night RAW, where a storied rivalry was newed and a confusing at best championship shift took center stage.

The longstanding tension between CM Punk and John Cena took added another chapter as Punk issued a challenge for the Undisputed WWE Championship, delivering a promo laden with raw emotion and a promise to fight not only for personal redemption but for the passion of the WWE Universe itself. Cena, ever the savvy veteran, responded with a twist—insisting that for Punk to earn the title shot, he must travel to Saudi Arabia for a high-stakes match at Night of Champions. Cena’s response to Punk was great given Punk’s real life animosity toward WWE doing shows in Saudi Arabia. It was a nice way to blur the lines of storyline and reality.

The preliminary rounds of the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments added extra layers of anticipation as Roxanne Perez one upped Liv Morgan to get the win. That win, coupled with Dominik’s continued interest with Roxanne continue to spell trouble for the Judgment Day. In the men’s match, Sami Zayn outlasted Dominik Mysterio, Penta and Bron Breakker to win the match with a little thanks to LA Knight taking out Breakker.

In the show’s main event, Jey Uso—still reeling from recent contests—faced off against Gunther in a bout for the World Heavyweight Championship. The match was a gritty, hard-hitting affair that saw Gunther methodically impose his dominance; it ended with a head scratching title change via submission. The anticlimatic end to RAW had fans deriding the decision to take the title off of Jey Uso. I’m sure some fans, like myself, were looking for a cash in but instead Gunther, who I actually like, will get another run with the World Heavyweight Title. It’s a title reign that makes zero sense given Uso’s popularity and his engaging storyline with Seth Rollins and his faction.

On June 1, 2025, WWE shocked the industry by announcing the release of R-Truth after 17 years of service. The move was reportedly a financial decision—a cost-cutting measure that cut deep into the hearts of fans and fellow wrestlers. Many within the locker room and the broader WWE Universe were vocally disappointed by the departure, with several superstars and supporters taking to social media to express their dismay. The outcry was so intense that chants of “We want Truth” began resonating at subsequent shows, signaling that this wasn’t just any piece of news but an event that struck a core chord with the audience and its talent alike

The backlash was swift and powerful. Reports later revealed that negotiations to bring R-Truth back together with WWE unfolded within an astonishing 72 hours. Key to this turnaround was allegedly WWE executive Nick Khan, whose intervention proved crucial during the discussions. The overwhelming fan sentiment and internal pressure led to a new deal materializing almost overnight. This rapid shift sent a clear message: WWE was listening to its fans and recognized the value and legacy of one of its long-time performers. There was no reason to cut him in the first regardless of whether or not TKO is said to be in debt.

Following his monumental return at Money In The Bank, R-Truth showed up at Monday Night RAW, and in a highly symbolic gesture, cut his hair in an emotionally charged moment inside the arena. With the crowd firmly behind him, he announced that he would now be known as Ron Killings—a declaration meant to shed the old image of a mere side-show act. “The truth has set me free,” he proclaimed, a statement that was met with thunderous applause and signified a rebirth both in character and in resolve. This rebranding carries the promise of a more competitive edge and an evolution beyond his previous comedic gimmick, positioning him to keep his character identity once his new WWE deal expires. Rebranding with his full name will allow Killings to use his persona in other promotions and conventions.

With Night of Champions and SummerSlam on the horizon, this wild turn of events will have fans perplexed with the booking decisions of Triple H and Creative.
