Wrestling fans have been eating good this summer. Between AEWโs blockbuster All In, WWEโs show-stealing Evolution 2, and the emotional highs and lows of legends and injured icons, the wrestling world feels more aliveโand unpredictableโthan ever. Letโs break down the biggest stories shaking the squared circle.
๐ฅ Toni Storm vs. Mercedes Monรฉ: A Timeless Classic at AEW All In 2025
When AEW announced Toni Storm vs. Mercedes Monรฉ for All In, expectations were through the roofโand they still werenโt high enough. This match was pure poetry. Storm, in full โTimelessโ persona glory, brought her old-Hollywood chaos. Monรฉ, ever the wrestling nomad and style icon, brought precision and storytelling.
Their chemistry was undeniable. Stormโs vicious moves and charisma were perfectly countered by Monรฉโs resilience and signature counter-wrestling. The sold-out Global Life Field crowd in Arlington, TX. was hanging on every move, counter and near fall.
In the end, Storm won with a picture-perfect Storm Zero off the second rope, but the real victory was for womenโs wrestling. This match will surely be a MOTY candidate but it was more than a matchโit was a statement.
๐ฅ Hangman Reclaims GoldโWith Some Help

Hangman Adam Page defeated Jon Moxley for the AEW World Title at All Inโbut not without help.
The match was brutal, with Moxley bleeding five minutes in (because of course he did) and Page taking wild risks. While I don’t mind blood in a match it was feels like Moxley goes the sadistic route where it feels like it’s too much. Was the bed of nails spot really necessary? All in all both men told a brutal story but just when Mox had the upper hand, chaos broke out. In a scene completely lifted from the finale of WrestleMania XL, Bryan Danielson, Darby Allin, and Swerve Stricklandโthree men who donโt always play well with othersโstormed the ring to dismantle the BCC and the Young Bucks.
With the BCC and Bucks out of the picture, Page finally overcame Moxley and won the belt to the delight of the sold out Global Life Field. This was a moment for fans of AEW as they got to go home happy.
Goldbergโs Last Match Ends in Frustration
WWEโs Saturday Nightโs Main Event had the unenviable task of trying to draw headlines away from AEW All In. For the most part it did not succeed as it was a largley forgettable show capped off by Bill Goldbergโs final match.
Facing Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship in the main event, Goldberg was carried by Gunther to make him look like the powerhouse heโs always been. The match also lasted close to 15 minutes before Gunther locked Goldberg in the Sleeper to end it. The crowd showed their appreciation for Goldberg but fans watching on TV only saw a short clip due to NBC’s hard out.
Goldberg, instead of having gratitude for having a final match to close out his career, took to “The Ariel Helwani Show” to voice his frustration about the build for his match and his post match speech:

“I would have loved for them to announce it in January and have a build-up to it and do something like that, that I thought was maybe worthy of my career,”
โ Bill Goldberg on The Ariel Helwani Show

“Let’s just say I’m pissed off at the way I went out because I put so much into it, and I don’t feel the effort was reciprocated to put a stamp on what I accomplished…”
โ Bill Goldberg on The Ariel Helwani Show
The backlash from Goldberg’s comments was swift with Peter Rosenberg, Bully Ray, Rikishi among others blasting Goldberg for not being grateful that he got a retirement match.
I would’ve been fine with never seeing Goldberg in a ring again. His matches were never that great to begin with and in the case of the last decade they’ve been mid to awful. For him to complain about getting a retirement match when WWE didn’t have to do one speaks to his overinflated ego. Good riddance…
๐ฅ Evolution 2: WWEโs All-Women Showcase Crushes Expectations
You could forgive fans for being skeptical about Evolution given its lackluster build and placing it on the same night as a Beyoncรฉ concert but when Evolution 2 finally arrived it COOKED. Every match on the card hit and the ladies over performed. Critics and fans alike called Evolution the best PLE this year from WWE. The match card went as followed:

- Becky Lynch def. Bayley & Lyra Valkyria to retain Intercontinental Championship
- Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez def. Charlotte Flair/Alexa Bliss, The Kabuki Warriors and Sol Ruca/Zaria to retain Women’s Tag Team Championships
- Jacy Jayne def. Jordynne Grace to retain NXT Women’s Championship
- Tiffany Stratton def. Trish Stratus to retain WWE Women’s Championship
- Jade Cargill def. Naomi in No Holds Barred Match
- Stephanie Vaquer wins Battle Royal for title shot at Clash in Paris
- Naomi cashes in on Io Sky & Rhea Ripley and wins Women’s World Championship
Io Sky and Rhea Ripley put on a sure fire MOTY candidate. This match showed why Io Sky is the best women’s wrestler on the planet. Credit to Rhea as she matched Io move for move and showed why she’s the biggest women’s star on the planet. Just when it looked like Io had the upper hand here came Naomi with briefcase in tow to capitalize off the war Io & Rhea put themselves through:
Naomi’s victory is a reminder that her journey, often underappreciated, is far from over. And now she holds the gold again.
๐ Injury Report: Adam Cole & Seth Rollins Sidelines Shake Things Up

It wouldnโt be wrestling without the highsโand the heartbreak. This week brought two major injuries:
- Adam Cole revealed at AEW All In that he will be out for a significant period of time. It was later revealed that he is suffering from concussion issues. Cole recently dealth with concussion issues back in 2022 which caused him to miss months of action. Cole fought back emotion while making the announcement leading some to believe he’s considering retirement. Here’s hoping Cole can make a comeback.
- Seth Rollins, meanwhile, suffered a knee injury during his match with LA Knight at Saturday Nightโs Main Event. WWE hasnโt released full details, but sources say heโll be โout for an extended period.โ The injury appeared real, and Rollins was visibly upset as he was helped to the back.
With two of wrestlingโs most charismatic stars sidelined, both AEW and WWE will need to pivot fast.
Final Thoughts
- “The Forever Champ” Athena won the Women’s Casino Gauntlet at All In to guarantee her a world title match against the AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm. AEW should keep her away from Storm just like they did with Mercedes Monรฉ.
- In another MOTY candidate, Kazuchika Okada & Kenny Omega put on a brutal and brilliant main event at AEW All In: Texas. In what could have been their final match in their legendary rivalry, Okada won to unify the AEW Continental and AEW International Championships to become the first-ever AEW Unified Champion.
- Fans have been wondering when would Roman Reigns make his return. They got their answer on Monday night:
- With Seth Rollins conceivably on the shelf for months, WWE will look to switch to The OTC and Bron Breakker locking horns. This will be a fun feud that will keep Roman busy and will give a rub to Breakker who WWE sees as their future.
